The beginning of February is the best time to travel to the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago. These beautiful islands famed for their party lifestyle explode at the culmination of their Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, which climaxes on the two days before Ash Wednesday. In truth, the party begins right from Christmas but has its farewell blow-out in the form of masquerade bands, spectacular costumes and pulsating music. Day one sees the tradition of J’ouvert which is an expression and celebration of the dark history and traditions that the island has been witness to. This is the best time of the year to visit the islands. Everyone is invited to cover themselves in chocolate, mud, paint, etc and join the riotous crowd that spill into the streets. At around 4 am, soca music which is the Trinidad and Tobago music blasts out onto the streets as revelers make their way around town with thousands of locals all representing demons, devils, imps and goblins. Tuesday, or day two, is when the actual parade takes place, where hundreds of bands await their turn to perform. This is extremely fun to watch as each band is conceptualized around a specific theme that is historic, mythological or tropical. Each band, small, medium or large cross the main judging points and the best band is crowned as the Masquerade Band of the Year! If you plan to attend this unforgettable Trinidad and Tobago festival, you should immediately reserve one of Half Moon Blue’s extra spacious suites or in their spectacular Penthouse, overlooking the horizon, the half moon shaped Bacolet Bay and the overflowing swimming pool.
